Upon the reception of a request our Operation Centre is fully activated. The request should contain simply the pickup Unit data, the expiration of the observation time (CAM = Commissione Accertamento Morte: Death Declaration Commission), and the maximum acceptable return time.
Immediately for ground trips and in about 20 – 30 minutes for aerial or combined ones, the équipe is informed of the conditions of the transport and the time it will be picked up at the starting point.
Our personnel will be in place at least ten minutes before the agreed time, to define the operational details.
The NOPC Ops Centre will inform the necessary authorities to activate the maximum urgency procedures.
In the case of transfer by helicopter, our personnel will take care of the arrangements needed to the approach and landing on the Hospital helipad. The medical team will be followed in each step by our personnel, in order to face and solve any logistic problem – unexpected too – that could arise, e.g. the worsening of weather condition or a delay of the explant beyond the ephemeris, thus requiring the use of an IFR helicopter, an aircraft or a car.
Constantly the NOPC Ops Centre will keep open a flow of communication between the explant team and the transplant unit to coordinate and optimize the timing of both operations.
We like to highlight that our service is not limited to the sheer transfer, but our personnel is trained and available to comply with any logistical need, also in the surgery rooms; so that the medical staff will be able to fully dedicate only to the sanitary aspects.
