The Nucleo Operativo di Protezione Civile is a Civil Protection Volunteer Organization founded in 1993 by a group of people driven by enthusiasm and a desire to be helpful.
After the initial period of activity, in 1996 we were registered in the list of Associations recognized by the Civil Protection Department at the Presidency of the Council of Ministers. Since then, we have also been listed in the Regional Register of Volunteer Associations managed by the Tuscany Region, and since 2007, in the one maintained by the Lombardy Region. In 2023, we were registered with RUNTS.
Our mission is to support institutional structures in delivering services for the benefit of the community. Over the years, we have collaborated with numerous institutional entities, both in emergency situations and non-emergency contexts, establishing our operational identity in transplant logistics. This involves the coordination and execution of all movements necessary for successful transplants, including transporting surgical teams engaged in organ and tissue retrieval, isolated organs, and samples for diagnostic assessments before transplantation.
We also handle the transportation of HPC progenitor cells, found in bone marrow and essential for life-saving transplants for patients with leukemia and other blood cancers. Since 1998, this activity has taken us worldwide, wherever a generous donor has decided to give a part of themselves to save another person they will never meet. Bone marrow transplant donors are healthy, consenting individuals who must be genetically highly compatible with the recipient, sometimes found on the other side of the world.
In recent years, we have also been involved in transportation for research projects focused on developing new therapies for blood cancer treatment.
Another key aspect of our mission is managing the Civil Protection event documentation center. When a Civil Protection-related event occurs—whether in emergency response or training exercises—our organization documents significant moments through videos and photos. The produced materials are archived and made available to institutions and other associations.
